We have all heard how Uber is the most flexible job in the world, right? I have been an Uber driver in Melbourne since 2014 and I know that while it is a super flexible job, with recent Uber pay cuts to drivers and the increasing number of Uber partners on our roads it’s becoming more and more difficult to make good money driving for Uber alone.
While yes, it is a flexible job and you can work anytime you want, you can switch the app on & do a few extra hours here and there. However if you are looking at #ridesharing to be your main source of income we think there are some great ways to maximise your income.
I have been driving for Uber since 2014 and recently I have started driving for PeoplePost. Here is how I plan my week, say I want to make $900 per week. I break this down into easily digestible chunks:
Weekday target $150 - Mornings are always busy on Uber you can make around $90 between 6am - 9am. At 10am I would try and take a breakfast break and check out PeoplePost for my next job job. A normal job with PeoplePost takes either 1 hour for $30 or 2 hours for $55. Thats approx. $145 between 6am - 12pm. If you continue to work on Uber over lunch hour you can easily make $150 and finish driving before the schools finish at 3pm (this is also when the roads start getting busy).
If you do this 5 days a week that would pay $750 for working from 6am - 1pm giving you the afternoon to do what whatever you like, watch movies, play tennis, walk the dog, pick the kids up from school.
Saturday target $200 - On a Saturday I normally take the morning off to do house admin (cleaning, washing, shopping and other fun stuff) but I always get ready to be on the road for peak hours which start at around 4-5pm on Saturday afternoon and normally Uber will stay busy until around 9-10pm (this is a good time to take a break, grab a coffee or a bite to eat) if you start driving again at 10-11pm its normally busy through until 1-2am.
If I work from 4pm - 1am on a Saturday I would normally make $200 but if you combine that with the $750 I made during the week thats $1050. Much higher than the $900 I was hoping for, whilst spending Saturday and Sunday with my family & friends = a good income & flexibility.
Give it a try, get up early on a Monday and stay in Bed on a Sunday it works for me! I’m not saying that what would work for me, will work for you & your lifestyle choice's but equally don’t get upset if you are working on Uber for 3 hours a day during business hours and only making $40 a day. Thats when most people that use Uber are at work in the city, not many jobs and no surge pricing.
Please feel free to comment or send me a message if you have a better way to hit your weekly rideshare target.
Until next time. Stay safe out there
Cool App of the month
Have you ever been in the middle of a Surge and you need to find a public toilet fast! It’s fine if you are in your home suburb and you know your way around but what happens if you are in Frankston, Geelong or even Craigieburn! You panic and start crossing your legs which isn’t advisable while driving. Now thanks to Jamie at Natures Call there is an app that shows you where the nearest public toilet is. You can drive there and get back on the road without missing another surge! You can download the app for free from the App store here
